The world's largest science festival is back in May in Nijmegen!
Ever wondered what a real scientist looks like? What a scientist does all day? What they dream about? Wouldn’t it be great if you could just meet a scientist in a pub and ask them all your questions? Well, we’ve got good news for you!
Pint of Science is an annual science festival, and this year, will take place over three days from the 19th to the 21st of May. We bring researchers to your local pub to show you the latest happenings in the world of science. In Nijmegen, we start on Monday, May 19, together with Science Café Nijmegen. We will bring two experts - Marie Šafář Postma and Peter Pijpers - to shed light onto diverse aspects of cognitive warfare. Šafář Postma (TiU) is professor of Computational Cognitive Science and investigates how artificial intelligence can be used to protect us against cognitive manipulation. She develops, among other things, AI tools designed to detect and counteract the online spread of disinformation. Peter Pijpers (UvA, NLDA) is a colonel of the Dutch military and associate professor of Cyber Operations. His research focus is on the legal and cognitive dimension of influence operations in cyberspace.
In the following two nights, Pint of Science continues, inviting the audience to know more about diverse perspectives in science, and how that impacts on daily research of scientists. On Tuesday, May 20, we will be at De Klinker, where researchers will talk about miscellaneous topics such as how neuroscientists study emotion processing in the brain and what we can learn from indigenous philosophy. On Wednesday (May 21), the final day of the event will be at De Opstand, with discussions on the role of media and social perceptions in sexual norms; the connection between identity tensions in teachers and burn-out; among others!
