Explore the ecosystem impacts of environmental pressures caused by biomass production, as well as possible ways to mitigate them. Join our speakers from the Horizon Europe project BAMBOO, which aims to understand the impacts associated with non-food biomass along global supply chains and to find ways to stop and reverse biodiversity loss.
Climate change impacts on functional diversity
Jennifer Anderson
(PhD candidate at Leiden University)
Climate change from human activities threatens global biodiversity. Understanding these impacts is important to formulate effective biodiversity conservation strategies. I am developing novel impact assessment methods to estimate climate change impacts in different ecosystems. Species richness – the number of species – is often used to evaluate biodiversity. Research has shown, however, that functional diversity – the diversity of traits – is more closely linked to ecosystem functioning, from which humans also benefit. Therefore, I explore how changing climatic conditions under different future scenarios could affect functional diversity.

Land use impacts on ecosystem services
Liam Vezzani
(PhD student at Radboud University)
Nature does a lot more for us than we realize! My name is Liam Vezzani and my research focuses on four key benefits it provides: pollination, pest control, soil protection, and carbon sequestration. But here’s the twist—these benefits are affected by the way we use the land. Do you want to learn more? Join the event, and I will walk you through it and answer all your questions.
Shaping the Future Today
Dr. Carlijn Bos
(Researcher at Planbureau voor de Leefomgeving)
How do decisions we make now shape the year 2100? We are on a mission to quantify how our actions affect biodiversity, and, more importantly, how we can do better in the future. Using a long-term, global model we simulate the effects of land use, the energy system and economic developments. Join me, Carlijn Bos, at the pub to dive into the world of scenario creation.
