A climatic time journey

Martin Ziegler (Associate Professor)
The atmosphere today contains around 429 ppm (parts per million) CO₂. That does not sound like a lot. But what does that number actually mean? To put it in perspective, I'll take you on a journey through time, exploring how CO₂ levels and temperatures have changed through the history of our planet, long before humans existed. I'll talk about how scientists can actually measure ancient climates and what we learn from this about our future.

A colder Europe in a warmer world

René van Westen (Postdoctoral Researcher)
Global temperatures continue to rise due to human emissions, and these higher temperatures are destabilising the climate system. A crucial ocean circulation may collapse under future climate change, leading to regional climate shifts and resulting in a cooler and drier Europe.

Circular Electronics: a transdisciplinary challenge

Lorenzo Ceccarelli (University Lecturer)
Electrical waste or E-Waste is the fastest growing waste stream in the world. Our devices and appliances are designed to be disposable, wasting precious raw materials and causing environmental harm. Can a multidisciplinary team of engineering students tackle this challenge by envisioning a new, circular model for electronics?
